[35] Rekindle my passion for playing piano

35. Rekindle my passion for playing piano [The passion is there, I've been listening to a lot of modern pieces on you tube. Maybe next year I'll buy a decent electric piano]

When I rewrote my 101 list at the start of January, I didn’t have the funds to purchase an electric piano. I’ve been keeping an eye out on freeCycle for keyboards, or even old upright pianos, but I never seem to be quick enough in my responses to get them. So, back then, I figured I don’t have enough time to give this a go and made a consencious decision to put it on the backburner. Looking back, it’s been nearly 10 years since I played, I’d say I was 15, maybe 16 when I gave it up, but by that stage I had nearly completed all those piano grades bar one. Now, however I’m not so interested in the academic part, the grades, I guess I just want to make music and play some of the awesome renditions that people on youtube have, like Muse, Radiohead, NIN, Massive Attack, the list goes on. Sooo, as chance would have it, last weekend I was offered a brand new keyboard! It’s not got all the octaves (it has 5) and it’s not pressure sensitive, but it does have a midi port so I can plug it into my laptop! Not only that I got a stand and some books. What a start! Over the last couple of days, I’ve been trawling the web for good free sheet music, and youtube for the immense collection of tutorials. Speaking of sheet music, I couldn’t even remember the notes or scales, but now I’m finiding that my brain has started to remember how to read and interpret them. The first piece that I have learned somewhat is Massive Attack - Teardrop.

I hadn’t realised that this is the theme for House, but luckily enough, now that it’s become pretty popular there are tonnes of you tube tutorials. I still need to read this off a sheet, and make the occasionaly mishap, but things are starting to sound good. Secondly, I learned Clubbed to Death. Remember that tune from the Matrix. Also, pretty easy, but immensly satisfying to play. It goes something likes this:
